David’s Simba Edge Maquis in CAF Confederation Cup Showdown

Former Orlando Pirates co-coach Fadlu Davids led Simba SC to a narrow 1-0 victory against Bravos do Maquis in a Group A matchup of the CAF Confederation Cup at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on Wednesday.

Charles Ahoua scored the decisive goal for Simba in the 27th minute by converting a penalty. Maquis, which included South African international Abednego Mosiatlhaga, was awarded a penalty in the dying moments of the match. However, Nigerian international Emmanuel Edmond’s attempt was blocked by Simba’s goalkeeper Moussa Camara.

It was a hard-earned win for Simba, with goalkeeper Camara significantly contributing by preventing numerous chances from Maquis. This victory places Simba at the top of Group A with three points.

Davids has a solid history with the Confederation Cup, having guided Pirates to the finals during the 2022 season alongside Mandla Ncikazi, where they were ultimately defeated by RS Berkane.

At Simba, who currently lead the Tanzania Premier League, Davids is aided by two South African internationals, Wayne Sandilands and Darren Wilkens.
