NEWCASTLE fans are furious after their main transfer target, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, has declined the opportunity to join St James’ Park.
The Magpies had earmarked the Marseille midfielder as a key player in their efforts to rebuild following a difficult summer on Tyneside.
However, transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has reported that Hojbjerg’s potential move is now OFF after further discussions.
Newcastle was apparently ready to meet Marseille’s asking price for the 31-year-old former Tottenham player, but the Denmark international turned down their proposal.
This rejection has upset some Magpies supporters, especially after losing several pivotal players this summer.
One fan expressed their displeasure: “I was never completely sold on his signing, but him turning us down feels like a new low. #NUFC.”

Another supporter lamented: “Being turned down by Hojbjerg feels like a new low. I’m disappointed I can’t place bets on him getting a yellow card every week.”
A third remarked: “The last thing we need is a player like him on a pricey long-term contract. He’s simply not worth it.”
This latest setback follows Newcastle’s loss of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona and Sandro Tonali to Tottenham, with the latter’s transfer earning the club the second-highest fee in their history.
Captain Bruno Guimaraes has also moved to Arsenal, leaving a significant void in midfield that Newcastle had hoped Hojbjerg would fill.

Furthermore, the upheaval has extended beyond player transfers, with Eddie Howe resigning after nearly five years, and former Al-Ahli manager Matthias Jaissle taking over.
While new additions like goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen, winger Bazoumana Toure, and midfielder Sean Steur have joined the squad, Hojbjerg’s decision represents another frustrating hurdle as Newcastle seeks to overhaul their lineup.
Jaissle now faces a race to strengthen his roster before the transfer window closes, with Newcastle’s Premier League season set to commence against Liverpool on August 23.
