Cedric Kaze, the head coach of Sekhukhune United, praised his players for their determination and mental strength as they overcame an early setback to secure a spot in the MTN8 semifinals, following a thrilling quarter-final against AmaZulu.
Babina Noko secured their place in the final four after edging AmaZulu 4-3 in an exciting seven-goal clash at Chatsworth Stadium on Sunday, with Vuyo Letlapa scoring the decisive goal in extra time.
Despite conceding an early goal, Sekhukhune displayed impressive resilience, equalizing just before halftime.
The away side then appeared to take control in the second half, scoring twice within two minutes at the 52nd and 54th minutes to establish a 3-1 advantage.
However, AmaZulu swiftly leveled the match with two quick goals, keeping the excitement alive until Sekhukhune ultimately claimed the winning goal in extra time.
Kaze noted that the match’s intensity made it challenging for him to fully enjoy the experience, humorously suggesting that fans and TV viewers likely had a more enjoyable time.
“The supporters and those watching on TV probably had more fun than I did due to the game’s unpredictability,” he said.
“I have to commend my players for their exceptional attitude and commitment throughout the match.”

Kaze, formerly with Kaizer Chiefs, acknowledged that this thrilling seven-goal match tested his emotions, especially when Sekhukhune was ahead before AmaZulu’s comeback.
He admitted that the fast-paced momentum changes left him worried about his well-being, as neither team could assert dominance.
“I’ll just celebrate the victory because I honestly felt like I might have a heart attack with how swiftly the situation shifted, particularly when we led 2-1,” he commented.
“Yet, things can change quickly in football.”
“This is a cup match, and as the saying goes, cup games are full of surprises. I’m delighted that we advanced.”
The win propels Sekhukhune into the MTN8 semifinals, where they will meet the reigning champions, Orlando Pirates.
