A YOUNG footballer has sadly passed away following a serious car accident, prompting the devastated Kosovo national team to pay tribute to the talented player.
Fatjon Bunjaku, 22, was a valued part of Kosovo’s youth teams and was anticipated to significantly contribute to the senior team before his tragic passing.
Reports indicate that he was behind the wheel when his vehicle crashed into another car.
Three individuals were swiftly taken to the hospital for emergency medical treatment in the village of Maxhunaj on Sunday morning.
Despite the medical team’s dedicated efforts, they could not save the young man.
A police statement clarified: “At around 07:50, the University Clinical Hospital Service of Kosovo was notified that, despite medical personnel’s efforts, the driver of the vehicle, a 22-year-old male, succumbed to his injuries from the accident.”

Avni Zahiti, the Police Spokesperson for the Mitrovica Region, confirmed that an investigation is underway.
The unfortunate event took place on the Mitrovica-Pristina national road, which is now the subject of a police inquiry.
According to the prosecutor’s directives, the victim’s remains have been dispatched to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for detailed examination.
Investigators from the Regional Traffic Unit are diligently working to ascertain the circumstances that led to the fatal accident.
This tragic news has left the Kosovo football community in mourning.
The Football Federation of Kosovo expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the young athlete.
The Federation stated they received the news with “profound pain and sadness.”
In a heartfelt message, President Agim Ademi honored Bunjaku’s talent and character.
“With deep pain and great sorrow, we learned of the tragic and premature passing of your cherished friend, Fatjon Bunjaku. On my behalf, the Executive Committee of the Football Federation of Kosovo, and the entire football community in the country, I offer my most sincere condolences for this profound and irreplaceable loss,” read the letter from FFK President Agim Ademi.
The tribute highlighted Bunjaku’s importance beyond just being a player.
It noted: “Fatjon was not only a talented footballer; he was an educated, dedicated, and ambitious young man, whose hard work, character, and passion for football earned him the respect of all who were fortunate to know him.”
“His contributions to the clubs he played for and his performances for the Kosovo U21 team will always be treasured memories in our football history.”
“Fatjon honorably represented Kosovo and embodied an athlete who constantly strived for excellence.”
“His passing at such a young age has left us in shock. Kosovar football has lost an exceptional talent, while his family, friends, and teammates have lost a beloved individual whose impact will forever be felt in their hearts.”
Bunjaku had represented Kosovo at the youth level, participating in both the U19 and U21 teams.
On the club front, he built his career across multiple teams, including Trepça, Liria, Gjilan, Malisheva, Phoenix, and most recently Elbasan in Albania.
Additionally, he had played in Croatia, making a mark as a young player with international goals.
The announcement of his passing has sparked an outpouring of condolences across the football community in Kosovo.
Clubs, coaches, and teammates have united to express their grief as the sport copes with this unforeseen loss.
