Zinedine Zidane’s Son Luca Chosen for National Team Despite Father’s World Cup Victory with France

Luca, the son of ZINEDINE ZIDANE, has made a noteworthy shift in his international football allegiance as he prepares for the 2026 World Cup.

At 27 years old, Luca is stepping into the world of international football like his legendary father, Zinedine, who is now 53. However, as a goalkeeper for Granada, he has embraced a different position.

Luca is about to reach a significant career milestone, aiming for a possible debut in the World Cup this summer across the USA, Mexico, and Canada.

Nonetheless, he will not seek to replicate his father’s legendary achievements with France.

Having spent four years in Les Bleus’ youth setup, Luca made his initial appearance in 2014 with the Under-16 team.

Now, he has been selected by Algeria for the forthcoming international break.

Luca will be part of Vladimir Petkovic’s 26-man squad for the qualifiers against Somalia and Uganda.

Born in Aix-en-Provence, France, he is eligible to play for Algeria through his grandparents hailing from the Kabylie region.

Luca is the second of four brothers—Enzo, 30, Theo, 23, and Elyaz, 20—all of whom emerged from the Real Madrid academy.

After spending 14 years within Real’s Castilla system, Luca made his senior debut in 2018 during his father’s first coaching stint.

Over his time with the first team, Luca played only two matches, which included a loan to Racing Santander before moving to Rayo Vallecano and Eibar.

Algeria currently tops their qualifying group and is just one win away from earning a spot in the World Cup.

Zinedine enjoyed extraordinary success with France, winning the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000 before retiring in 2006, ending his career with a glaring red card in the final against Italy.
