Orlando Pirates’ head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has expressed his enthusiasm for Tshepang Moremi’s selection to the national team, marking his first time representing Bafana since becoming a Buccaneers player.
The 25-year-old winger has been in outstanding form since transferring to Pirates from AmaZulu in the off-season, and his impressive performances have secured him a spot in the national squad.
“I’m not surprised, as I consistently highlight that those who believe in their work will eventually reap substantial rewards,” Ouaddou stated.
“Players need to have faith in their skills, work diligently to uphold professionalism, and manage their lives wisely. I continuously remind my players that they are professionals and should trust in their potential.”
Moremi’s inclusion is well-merited, having netted twice from the bench in the recent MTN8 final against Stellenbosch last month at Mbombela Stadium. He also set up Tshegofatso Mabasa’s extra-time goal, which clinched the tournament for the Pirates, earning him the man of the match honor.
While this isn’t his first call-up to the national team—having been invited during his time at Usuthu—his reliability has established him as a key player for the Buccaneers.
Moremi is not the only Pirates player making the national squad, as the team boasts a strong representation in the Bafana lineup.
Other selected players from Pirates include Sipho Chaine, Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Nkosinathi Sibisi, Thalente Mbatha, Relebohile Mofokeng, Oswin Appollis, and Sipho Mbule, making the Buccaneers the team with the most players in the Bafana roster.
“We aren’t like everyone else; we play every three days, which necessitates our relentless effort,” Ouaddou remarked.
“Thus, I’m not taken aback; I’m excited for him [Moremi] and all the players who have earned their way into the national squad.”
Bafana is set to engage in two crucial matches in this month’s FIFA World Cup qualifiers, facing Zimbabwe on 10 October at Moses Mabhida Stadium and Rwanda on 14 October at Mbombela Stadium.
