Interim Coach Cedric Kaze of Kaizer Chiefs has indicated that multiple new signings may finally have the opportunity to make their long-anticipated debuts as Amakhosi face Stellenbosch FC in the Carling Knockout Cup at DHL Stadium this Sunday.
Concerns Over Player Fatigue
Kaze noted that player fatigue is becoming a pressing concern, with Chiefs having played six matches in the last 18 days—averaging a game every three days.
This demanding schedule has coincided with an unsettling run of three league matches without a victory, leaving Amakhosi in fifth place on the Betway Premiership table with 15 points from eight matches.
To combat player fatigue, Kaze is expected to implement squad rotations, bringing in Ethan Chislett, Etiosa Ighodaro, and Nkanyiso Shinga—all signed prior to the season but yet to make an appearance—potentially allowing them to don the Chiefs colours for the first time.
“For every team in this tournament, it’s a new beginning. We at Kaizer Chiefs are thrilled to be here and are prepared to give our utmost,” Kaze commented.
“We have been playing every three days for almost three weeks. It’s challenging for the players, so we require fresh energy and clear minds for the upcoming match.”
Chiefs’ Recent Challenges in Cup Competitions
Chiefs aim to reverse their unfortunate history in the Carling Knockout (previously known as the Telkom Knockout). Last season, they faced elimination in the first round after suffering a heavy 5-0 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns at FNB Stadium.
In prior instances, they encountered elimination by AmaZulu, marking the first time they succumbed to the Durban team in any cup competition during the PSL era.
Despite these recent setbacks, Chiefs hold the record for the most titles in this tournament with 13, although their last triumph was in 2010.

Kaze perceives the Carling Knockout as a chance for rejuvenation and seeks to reignite enthusiasm among supporters:
