Former Miss Belgium Joins Forces with Glamorous Racing Driver in Quest for F1 Leadership

The competition to become the new FIA president is heating up as two striking candidates enter the spotlight.

Current president Mohammed Ben Sulayem is vying for reelection at the helm of the International Automobile Federation, which oversees Formula One.

He already faces competition from American motorsport official Tim Mayer for this position, with the elections set to take place in mid-December in Uzbekistan.

Now, two additional candidates have stepped up, aiming to become the first female leaders of the organization.

Swiss racing driver and entrepreneur Laura Villars, 28, revealed her candidacy last month, stressing the importance of diversity in motorsport.

Just this week, she was joined by Belgian model and racing journalist Virginie Philippot, 33.

Philippot made her campaign announcement this past Monday, detailing her aspirations on Instagram.

She expressed: “I’m running for the presidency of the FIA. Not to be the first, but to ensure I’m not the last.

“I believe motorsport should reflect the real world—bold, diverse, and united.

“As a woman with a global perspective and deep roots, my objective is to open doors that have remained closed for far too long.

“The race for the future begins now.”

Philippot previously enjoyed a modeling career, having been crowned Miss Belgium in 2012 and participating in Miss International 2017.

She later transitioned into motorsport journalism and influencing.

Philippot has collaborated with teams like Red Bull and Ferrari, sharing insights on her Instagram account, which boasts 41,000 followers.

In 2023, she founded a charity called ‘Drive For Hope,’ focused on aiding orphans and improving education in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Though she faces formidable opposition from seasoned rivals, we will have to await the outcomes of the race on December 12th.
