Although they had hoped to return to the upgraded stadium last November, various setbacks have delayed that timeline.
As they inch closer to welcoming fans back, club officials are bracing for yet another unforeseen challenge that might call for a temporary move.
Per reports from Sport, the Turkish contractor Limak Construction, overseeing the renovations, is bringing in a specialized team to construct a “horizontal bicycle wheel roof.”
Robust spokes will be integrated to support a visually striking design, resembling that of Atletico Madrid’s Metropolitano Stadium.
This roof will represent the finishing touch of the £1.3 BILLION project, with club officials feeling optimistic about wrapping it up by 2027.
Rumor has it that “heads will roll” if the completion stretches into 2028 due to earlier delays.
It is estimated that workers will need around four months without fans to construct the roof’s framework.
Consequently, the team may have to relocate once more at the conclusion of the 2026/27 season and into the subsequent campaign for installation.

Fans and players will certainly hope that the temporary inconvenience will be worth it once the stadium, which will hold 104,000 spectators, reopens its gates.
At the project’s inception, Barcelona president Joan Laporta claimed it would eclipse all other stadiums.
