MICHAEL VAN GERWEN has addressed the “chaos” surrounding his divorce that took place earlier this year.
The three-time world darts champion has encountered a tough few months off the oche, having decided to take a break from the sport this summer.

At 36, Van Gerwen confirmed in May that he had parted ways with his wife of over a decade, who is also the mother of his two children, Daphne.
Following the announcement, the Dutch player revealed he would temporarily step back from darts to process his new circumstances.
Since then, Mighty Mike has engaged in “enjoyable activities,” including attending the Tomorrowland music festival and enjoying time in Ibiza.
In a conversation with Dutch outlet AD, he remarked: “I’m just a human being, you know. Eventually, you want to concentrate on positive aspects again instead of being overwhelmed by your turmoil.”
“This situation is something I could never script, so I have to manage it in a way that feels right. You can choose to sulk all day, but that is pointless. Instead, engage in pleasant experiences and take time for yourself.”
Van Gerwen also spoke about his attempts to establish a new routine and work-life balance, stressing that his children are now his priority.

He elaborated: “Is the process going smoothly? Not really. It takes patience. I have several responsibilities to juggle. I’m still navigating through the divorce.”
“It won’t all be resolved in a few days. You must handle the final arrangements and aftermath carefully, ensuring no mistakes are made.”

While in Ibiza, Van Gerwen was seen enjoying a Martin Garrix concert at the famous Ushuaia beach club.
Some speculated that the world No. 3 had shifted his focus away from darts after he shared images from his summer experiences on social media.
However, Van Gerwen dismissed the rumors, clarifying that he was simply vacationing with his children like any regular person.
“I still have a passion for darts and am not hesitant about it at all. Yet, since becoming a father, I’ve always stated that darts is no longer my top priority. My children come first, followed by everything else.”
“Ultimately, it’s my livelihood, and excelling at darts enables me to provide for my kids. Everything is interconnected, and I am very aware of that.”
He added, “I was just on holiday with my kids in Ibiza. Yes, I went out for a day, but doesn’t everyone do that? People make a big fuss about it, but what others say doesn’t concern me.”
“They should understand what I’ve been through… you must proceed with your life and seek closure, even though it’s easier said than done.”
Van Gerwen made his return to darts with a 6-5 victory over compatriot Wessel Nijman in the Last 32 at the World Series of Darts in Amsterdam.
He is scheduled to face Rob Cross in the Last 16.
