Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has outlined his primary objectives while at the helm of the team at Naturena, shedding light on the Glamour Boys’ aspirations for the eagerly awaited upcoming Betway Premiership season.
The Soweto giants wrapped up the previous season in ninth place, missing out on a top-eight finish for the second year in a row, which marked their lowest finish in PSL history, following a troubling 10th-place result in the season prior.
However, Chiefs did manage to celebrate a significant achievement by ending a decade-long trophy drought, clinching the Nedbank Cup against their rivals, Orlando Pirates, at the renowned Moses Mabhida Stadium last May.
As the 2025/26 league season draws near, the Tunisian coach conveyed his optimism regarding the team’s readiness, stating they are finalizing their preparations, despite the absence of winger Pule Mmodi for the season opener.
“We are making the final adjustments as we approach the first game of the season. I can say with certainty that we are very much prepared, though we are disappointed about Pule Mmodi’s suspension,” Nabi stated.
Having entered the second year of his tenure amidst discussions around his job security following last season, Nabi emphasized that his goal is to restore the club to its former prestige as they seek consistent league performances this upcoming season.
“Our main objective is to bring Kaizer Chiefs back to its rightful standing. I realize that some may be weary of the term process, but last season, my first, we achieved one of the two major trophies available to us,” he explained.
“This season, our approach will be to take it one game at a time, aiming for maximum consistency, and we’ll see where that leads us.”
The Chiefs are set to begin their PSL season with a match in the Mother City against a formidable Stellenbosch FC at DHL Stadium this Sunday (17:30). Nabi’s squad will look for inspiration from their three victories over Stellies from the previous season.
