United is prepared to accept a fee of only £30 million for Hojlund, significantly lower than the amount they spent to acquire him from Atalanta two years ago.
With three years left on his current deal, Hojlund still incurs an accounting “amortisation” cost of £38.4 million.
This implies that a £30 million transfer would lead to a PSR “loss” of £8.4 million, while also alleviating the club’s wage burden of his £4.4 million annual salary.
Amorim is hesitant about losing the Danish striker, and any sale hinges on United securing a more viable option.
Leipzig’s Sesko remains the favored candidate, but United faces strong competition from Newcastle in the attempt to acquire the Slovenian.
The Bundesliga club is looking to demand at least £70 million upfront for the 22-year-old Sesko.
Sesko did not participate in Saturday’s friendly loss to Atalanta following Newcastle’s initial £65.5 million offer, which included an extra £4.4 million in performance-related bonuses but was declined.
