Edmilson Dove, defender for Kaizer Chiefs, shares his disappointment as the team strives for a top-eight finish in the 2024/2025 Betway Premiership season.
At present, Chiefs sit in ninth place with 31 points acquired from 27 matches. While the “Glamour Boys” have experienced inconsistency in their pursuit of a top-eight position, they still have a chance to secure it with one match remaining in the season.
In spite of the challenging season, Amakhosi managed to break a decade-long trophy drought by defeating rivals Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final.
With the pressure to achieve a top-eight finish amid their erratic performance this season, Dove believes the players have let the club down.
“I’ve said this previously: this is one of the biggest teams in Africa. When you come here, your aim should be to win titles, not to settle for or find yourself in the unfortunate position we’re currently in,” remarked Dove.

“From my viewpoint, I feel we have let the club down at certain points because we didn’t perform as expected. However, that gives us the chance to compete fiercely in every match we play,” he continued.
“We can’t focus on our past mistakes now; we must direct our attention to what’s ahead. Yes, we could have had a more successful season and delivered better performances—this is a sentiment shared among the team—but now our goal is to qualify for the top eight,” he added.
Dove underscored that he joined Amakhosi with an ambition to win titles, and the current lack of achievement feels like a personal letdown.
“That’s definitely my mindset. When I came here, my goal was clear: to accomplish great things, to win titles, and to develop not just as a player but also as a person. It feels like a failure because this isn’t what I had envisioned. We can only look ahead and keep pushing,” Dove stated.
The outcome of the Chiefs’ final match against Polokwane City at FNB Stadium on Saturday will determine their chances for a top-eight finish.
