South Africa has acquired crucial reinforcements ahead of their African Nations Championship (CHAN) second leg qualifier against Malawi at Loftus Stadium this Sunday.
Coach Molefi Ntseki was buoyant during Thursday’s training session as he welcomed back Neo Maema, Ndumulelo Maphangule, Victor Letsoalo, Siyanda Msani, Simon Ramabu, and Kamogelo Sebelebele. These players were absent in the first leg, which ended in a 1-0 defeat for South Africa in Lilongwe.
The South African team engaged in a rigorous training match against Casric Stars from the Motsepe Foundation Championship at Loftus on Thursday, and Ntseki expressed his contentment with having these players in Pretoria this week.
“In the initial match, our tactic was to score while preventing any goals, but we unfortunately encountered issues with game management,” he remarked.
“Naturally, having players who aren’t regularly participating for their clubs, along with some who are currently without clubs, contributed to that late goal we conceded. Nevertheless, we didn’t allow this to dampen our spirits. We took away important lessons from that match that we will implement in the upcoming game.

“After returning to South Africa, we asked clubs to release players, especially those not participating this weekend. We observed that Chippa faced Sundowns, Pirates played against Golden Arrows, and the Nedbank Cup final is also taking place this weekend.”
Ntseki expressed gratitude for the clubs’ cooperation, which has led to a stronger and more cohesive team for the upcoming match on Sunday. “The clubs responded positively and released six of the players we needed for camp.”
