Tragedy struck when supporter Ed O’Brien fell from a tree in Millennium Square.
The 23-year-old was rushed to the hospital and remains in a coma.
A JustGiving campaign has been launched to assist Ed in his fight, successfully raising over £10,000, far surpassing the initial £750 target.
Among the donations, a message read: “Thinking of you. Strength and love!”
The Atlanta Hawks player is a committed Leeds fan and is involved with the 49ers Enterprises group that owns the club.
Ed’s mother, Stacey Barker, stated online: “To my knowledge, he had been drinking, but I believe he was not heavily intoxicated as some may suggest.
“I am also convinced that no other substances played a role.”
She emphasized that his recovery will be a “slow and lengthy journey” and is “unlikely to proceed without complications.”
The JustGiving page reads: “To support Ed O’Brien and his family as he bravely fights for his life following a fall from a tree during the celebrations for Leeds winning the league on Monday.
“His parents live in York, and this situation adds significant travel and time-off work challenges for them.
“We aim to raise funds to ease some of this burden. MOT stay strong, Ed.”
