Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has cautioned his squad against falling into complacency, even after their 3-0 victory over Chippa United at Loftus Stadium on Wednesday.
The Brazilians currently possess a 12-point advantage over second-placed Orlando Pirates, who hold 52 points but have two games in hand.
However, Cardoso emphasized that the league title is not guaranteed yet, and the team must focus on their upcoming matches.
“We have great respect for Stellenbosch as it is always a significant match to play against them,” Cardoso noted, highlighting the significance of their next game.
“Following the Stellenbosch match, we’ll face Chippa again… But our primary focus must be on securing three points in the next match, if we can.”

Cardoso’s comments underline the challenging road ahead for Sundowns. Obtaining a win and a draw in their final three matches would secure the league title for the Brazilians.
Their upcoming fixtures include a home game against Stellenbosch this Sunday, followed by matches against Chippa United and Magesi.
Cardoso remains focused on the imminent games and clinching the league title.
“I have tremendous respect for the competition and all the teams we will face, and I cannot say that our task is complete just yet. However, the moment for celebration will arrive, and for now, we should savor this win against Chippa.”
Regarding his striker Peter Shalulile, who missed the game against Chippa, Cardoso mentioned that Shalulile had some personal matters affecting his ability to play. Nonetheless, he expects Shalulile’s return soon.
“Peter had a minor issue that impacted his ability to play on Tuesday,” Cardoso explained.
“But I believe Peter will either be very close to the team or with us… If he’s unavailable for the next match, I’m 100% certain he will be ready for the one after that.”
