Mamelodi Sundowns edged closer to the Betway Premiership title with a commanding 3-0 victory over Chippa United at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Wednesday night.
Goals from Iqraam Rayners, Jayden Adams, and Thapelo Maseko secured the win for the Brazilians, putting them 12 points ahead of second-placed Orlando Pirates.
With only four points required, Sundowns are on the brink of winning the 2024/25 season title, which would be their eighth consecutive triumph.
The match began with Sundowns dominating possession, yet Chippa’s defense held firm, keeping the Brazilians at bay in the first 10 minutes.
However, the persistence of Sundowns paid off in the 29th minute when Khuliso Mudau sent in a precise cross to Rayners, who netted the opening goal.

Just before halftime, Adams widened Sundowns’ lead after Chippa goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali misjudged Teboho Mokoena’s free-kick.
In the second half, Chippa fought back, creating several opportunities but failing to find the back of the net.
Sundowns’ goalkeeper Denis Onyango made a crucial save to deny Sinoxolo Kwayiba’s header in the 60th minute.
The Brazilians responded by introducing Lucas Ribeiro and Thapelo Maseko, who both had an immediate impact. Maseko netted the third goal in the 80th minute, thanks to an assist from Arthur Sales.
This win puts Sundowns on the verge of securing the title, needing only a win and a draw from their last two matches.
Next up, the Brazilians will face Stellenbosch on Sunday at Loftus Stadium, followed by a trip to the Eastern Cape to take on Chippa United again the subsequent Wednesday.
