In Italy, Raducanu is working alongside Mark Petchey, having reestablished their connection after their time together in 2020 when he coached Andy Murray.
Accompanying her in Rome is Jane O’Donoghue, a long-time supporter throughout her career.
As she prepares for her first match at the Italian Open, Raducanu reflected on her need for independence.
The 2021 US Open champion stated: “I usually keep things private, and it takes a considerable amount for me to be open with others.
“I have not really let many people in my life, but I do trust those I allow close.
“Once I trust someone, I’m fully invested and care deeply, but I’ve experienced disappointment a few times.
“Some individuals I trusted have surprised me, but that’s just how life is. I still have amazing people in my life whom I genuinely trust, and I’m working on this aspect.
“I prefer not to delve too much into my problems, as that tends to amplify them.”

“I’m now learning to embrace each day and prioritize discipline over my emotions.”
Prior to reconnecting with Petchey, Raducanu briefly teamed up with Vlado Platenik earlier this year.

The two ended their collaboration after just one match in Miami.
Platenik became the seventh coach Raducanu has worked with since her triumph at the US Open.
In February, she faced an unsettling situation with a follower in Dubai.
After an uncomfortable encounter in a restaurant, an upset Raducanu sought refuge behind the umpire’s chair as security removed the individual from the stands.
‘I WAS SO SHELTERED’
Delving deeper into her trust issues, the British No. 2 remarked: “In recent years, it has been tough for me to trust new people, particularly those who didn’t know me before the US Open.
“I find myself gravitating towards familiar faces, and my circle has become smaller than ever. I was quite sheltered.
“Until I turned 18, I was mostly with my parents, who managed everything for me, shielding me from the world.
“Suddenly, after that, I encountered numerous disappointments, both in my career and personal life. Now, I’m very careful about who I allow into my life.”
Raducanu also expressed her desire to continue her education.
During her enforced break from tennis due to Covid in 2020, she achieved two A-Levels, securing an A* in Mathematics and an A in Economics.
She mentioned: “I’m unsure if I will pursue my third A-Level and a university degree. However, I believe a bit of pressure and excitement in my life would be advantageous.
“It would provide a great escape, as I’ve always used tennis as an escape from studying, and studying as an escape from tennis.
“Neither aspect has fully defined my life or my personality.”
