Man City Star Ederson ‘May Depart’ Etihad Following Unsuccessful Transfer Last Year

Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson is reportedly facing “strong possibilities” of leaving this summer — just a year after a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia fell through.

At 31, Ederson nearly departed City following his sixth Premier League title win in 2024, amid significant interest from clubs in the Middle East.

He was presented with an astonishing £900,000-a-week offer to leave the Etihad but opted to stay in the northwest.

However, Fabrizio Romano reports that Saudi clubs have renewed their pursuit of the Brazilian.

Ederson now appears close to departing City for more lucrative opportunities, with Pep Guardiola open to letting him go.

The 2023 Treble winner has made only 22 Premier League appearances this season, marking his lowest total to date.

He has missed City’s last three matches, including Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final win over Nottingham Forest, due to a mysterious injury sustained against Crystal Palace 16 days ago.

Ederson’s contract, which pays him £180k-a-week, runs until 2026.

With No. 2 Stefan Ortega consistently proving his worth, Ederson could join a list of notable exits from City.

Meanwhile, legend Kevin De Bruyne is poised to leave on a free transfer at the end of his contract this summer.

Additionally, uncertainties loom for players like Ilkay Gundogan, John Stones, and Nathan Ake.

City has initiated a squad overhaul, investing £180 million in players such as Omar Marmoush and Nico Gonzalez in January.

Other young talents like Nico O’Reilly and James McAtee have also received considerable playing time.

As manager Guardiola addresses speculation about his future by signing a contract extension until 2027, a new chapter in City’s history is unfolding.
