Pyramids FC coach Krunoslav Juricic recognizes the challenge presented by Orlando Pirates in their away fixture in the CAF Champions League, as both teams gear up for the critical second leg of their semi-final clash this Friday at 20:00.
In the first leg held last Saturday, both teams played to a goalless draw at the FNB Stadium, leading to an important return match at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo, where a place in the final is at stake.
Pyramids, known for their ambition and resources, aim to become the fifth Egyptian club to reach the final of Africa’s premier club tournament in just their second participation and their inaugural knockout stage appearance, following a near-miss in the final of the 2019/20 CAF Confederations Cup against RS Berkane.
The Croatian coach has assured fans of his unwavering commitment to guiding the team to the final, with all players, including the seasoned attacking midfielder Ramadan Sobhi—who has recovered from fitness issues after being an unused substitute in the first leg—eager to play their part.
“We guarantee our fans a significantly better performance in Cairo, and we will strive to capitalize on every opportunity to score and secure our spot in the final,” Juricic expressed during the pre-match press briefing.

“We are in excellent physical and technical form, and every player is fully ready for the match. We are determined to secure a victory and extend our remarkable journey in the tournament.”
While he remains optimistic about his team’s chances of progressing to the final, Juricic acknowledges the Orlando Pirates’ strong away record, having already eliminated notable teams in North Africa such as CR Belouizdad, Al Ahly, and MC Alger.
“I have great respect for Orlando Pirates’ away successes, as demonstrated by their results against Al Ahly and MC Alger. However, we have also maintained a solid home record, remaining unbeaten with consecutive victories, and we aim to leverage this advantage in the match,” he added.
It will be fascinating to see which team emerges triumphant, as they both strive to write a new chapter in their respective histories. The winner of this clash will face either reigning champions Al Ahly or Mamelodi Sundowns in the two-legged final for continental glory next month.
