Joshua, now aged 35, has held world titles on two occasions, leading some of the most consequential bouts in recent boxing history.

As he nears the end of his career, a significant void has been created in the heavyweight division.

Hearn is confident that Leo Atang, a renowned amateur champion, is poised to step into that gap.

Atang, who previously played rugby league in York, is a five-time national champion.

He clinched last year’s World Boxing Under-19 Championship by defeating Korean fighter Lee Geon Hui via knockout in the opening round.

The 18-year-old has chosen to forgo the Team GB Olympic program to pursue a professional career under Hearn’s direction.

Hearn expressed, “In my opinion, he is the one who can take Anthony Joshua’s legacy forward and revitalize the heavyweight scene for fans across the country.

“There’s a lot of work ahead for this young talent, and we will ensure he competes both nationwide and internationally.

He shared, “Signing with Matchroom is a dream come true.

“My team and I have had numerous fruitful discussions leading up to my professional debut, and this opportunity felt perfect from the start. It’s everything I have always dreamed of.

“I am excited to collaborate with Eddie, Sunny, Anthony Fitzpatrick, and the entire Matchroom Boxing team.

“Above all, I want to step into the ring and show the world what I’m capable of. We’ve worked hard and are dedicated. This life is my passion.

“My mindset is to push myself to the maximum and not overlook any details. I’m fit, strong, and ready to take on anyone right now.

“I have what it takes to reach the top of this sport. The journey starts now.”
