AmaZulu Part Ways with Ngema Over Disciplinary Issues

AmaZulu have officially terminated midfielder Celimpilo Ngema’s contract with immediate effect.

Ngema is said to have encountered disciplinary problems, including an occasion where he arrived at training under the influence of alcohol, which led to his dismissal from the session.

Subsequently, he was called before the club’s disciplinary committee (DC), where he was found guilty of the charges, leading to the decision to release him.

“Ngema is now a free agent and has the freedom to select his next club,” a source reported.

The 27-year-old midfielder joined Usuthu in July 2023 after transferring from Marumo Gallants, following the expiration of his contract with the now Bloemfontein-based team. He had previously been instrumental in guiding Gallants to the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup, where they fell to Nasreddine Nabi’s Young Africans.

The KwaZulu-Natal native departs Usuthu after making 45 appearances across all competitions, scoring two goals and providing four assists.

This season alone, he has played 15 matches, contributing one goal. Ngema has not been part of Usuthu’s squad for the last six league fixtures, with his last involvement being as an unused substitute during their victory against Cape Town City at King Zwelithini Stadium back in February.

Another player who has recently encountered a similar predicament is Abbubaker Mobara. He was reportedly involved in a confrontation with coach Arthur Zwane, leading to his suspension from the team. However, this situation arose from a disagreement rather than off-field misconduct, resulting in his reinstatement.

Mobara is said to have confronted coach Zwane in the locker room in a disrespectful manner. This isn’t the first instance of the former Cape Town Spurs player having such altercations at the club, as he has previously clashed with coaches like Brandon Truter, Romain Folz, and Pablo Franco Martin.

AmaZulu nearly parted ways with him during the off-season due to these incidents, but ultimately decided against it as he was still under contract and there were no offers from other clubs. Should any interest have arisen, Usuthu would have considered transferring him.

There is a strong possibility that Mobara, the ex-Orlando Pirates midfielder, will be released at the end of the season. He joined Usuthu in the latter half of the 2021/22 season from Cape Town City and has since made 70 appearances for the club, scoring one goal and providing three assists.
