Guimaraes, who scored during the impressive performance, stated, “As we entered the pitch, we committed to playing for him.
“He’s been phenomenal for us. We definitely felt his absence during training.
“I hope this victory brought him some happiness, and he will be back for the next game. It’s been a tough week for him.”
Two-goal hero Harvey Barnes added, “We believe he is on the mend. His impact during the week is crucial.
“We were aware of the task at hand without him and agreed before the match that we needed to make him smile.”
Howe, 47, was hospitalized on Friday, resulting in his assistant, Jason Tindall, stepping in to lead the team against United on Sunday.
The top five positions guarantee a Champions League place this season, and the Toon made a solid start.
Sandro Tonali kicked off the scoring, but Alejandro Garnacho equalized to make it 1-1 by halftime.

Nevertheless, the Toon dominated the Red Devils after the break, with Barnes’ pair of goals and Guimaraes’ involvement marking their first league double over United in 94 years.
Tindall mentioned, “I received a message from Eddie congratulating the team and praising their performance.

“He was able to observe the game, and I am confident that this performance will uplift him.
“I’m incredibly proud of the players. But I’m not surprised because we have an outstanding group along with strong leaders.
“In the manager’s absence, both individuals and the team need to rise to the occasion, and we did that. I’m very proud.”
When asked about Howe’s potential return for Wednesday’s match against Crystal Palace, Tindall replied, “I’m not sure.
“He’ll be in positive spirits, and the sooner the manager is back, the better for everyone.”
He was able to watch the game, and I’m sure that performance will put a smile on his face.

Tindall, 47, who was a former teammate and then Howe’s assistant at Bournemouth, remarked, “He was greatly missed. Particularly by me.
“This is only the second time in 17 years that we haven’t been side by side, and I definitely missed him.
“You feel the absence of your leader when he’s not there. However, it’s a testament to everyone for stepping up to fill those big shoes.
“He is one of the best managers out there, and everyone deserves credit for going out and delivering that performance.
“We’ve experienced a fruitful week, along with a very encouraging result away at Leicester on Monday.
“We understand our aspirations and expectations, and what we aim to achieve.
“Every match is crucial, particularly as we approach the critical stage of the season, so it’s vital that we perform well.”
