Nevertheless, his good friend Lowry isn’t far behind, sitting at five under after day three, just seven strokes behind McIlroy.
Lowry appeared visibly annoyed when asked for his thoughts on McIlroy’s chances of winning the Green Jacket, reminding reporters that he too is a contender in this tournament.
He remarked: “I’m not going to stand here discussing Rory for ten minutes. I’m here to win the tournament as well.”
“I understand that this is what you want me to talk about, but I just had a disappointing finish. I still have a shot at The Masters tomorrow, so I’m going to practice.”
Lowry had a front nine score of 35 and seemed to be on track with a birdie on the 14th hole, which brought him to seven under.
However, he bogeyed the final two holes, conveying his frustration and indicating that he wasn’t in the ideal mindset to engage with the media right after his round.
He added: “I think I need some time. I need about half an hour to gather my thoughts.”
“I can’t just speak to you guys immediately—it shouldn’t be like that, and I disagree with it.”

“Tennis players are given time before facing the media; they get half an hour or an hour to prepare.”
“I believe we should be afforded the same courtesy. Honestly, I’m likely going to say something foolish—I might have already said something I regret because I’m feeling frustrated right now, so I’m just going to walk away.”
