Teammates are holding Onana responsible for “tempting fate” by ridiculing the French team before their first leg in the quarter-finals.
A source close to United stated: “Some players are truly upset with him.
“One invites trouble with comments like his, only to appear foolish when it backfires.
“Some are thinking it might be time to give Altay Bayindir a shot.”
United manager Ruben Amorim initially backed Onana but admitted: “There’s nothing I can say that will assist Andre.”
Onana riled Lyon by declaring the Red Devils were “significantly better” than their opponents.
This comment drew sharp criticism from Lyon’s former United midfielder Nemanja Matic, who branded Onana “one of the worst keepers in United’s history.”
Onana retorted Matic’s remark by pointing out the Serb’s five trophyless seasons at Old Trafford.

The goalkeeper has now made NINE blunders that led to goals since his £43.8 million transfer from Inter Milan two years ago.
United legend Paul Scholes commented: “Onana is likely regretting his statements,” criticizing his “appalling” mistakes, particularly a crucial error in the 95th minute that let Rayan Cherki score the equalizer.
Andre Onana makes a shocking mistake that puts Manchester United in a difficult position after being booed during warm-up due to his altercation with Matic.
Meanwhile, fellow 1999 Treble winner, goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel noted: “Sometimes players speak out of turn. It has backfired on him.”
Amorim acknowledged: “We should have entered the next leg with a one-goal advantage.”
Man Utd ratings vs Lyon as Onana’s two mistakes result in a ONE out of 10 for the embattled keeper

MANCHESTER UNITED were left cursing goalkeeper Andre Onana as two critical mistakes led to a 2-2 draw against Lyon in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final.
The crucial match for both teams intensified following a verbal confrontation between Onana and former Red Devils player Nemanja Matic, who critiqued the goalkeeper as “one of the worst in United’s history.”
This evidently stirred the home crowd, who expressed their feelings as Ruben Amorim maintained the same lineup – for the first time since his arrival – from the Manchester derby.
However, Onana faltered, failing to stop a free-kick from Thiago Almada that gave the hosts the advantage.
Leny Yoro equalized just before halftime after Manuel Ugarte’s attempt.
Joshua Zirkzee seemed to have clinched the victory for the visiting team with a late header from a Fernandes cross.
Yet, United’s celebration was fleeting as Onana mishandled a shot, allowing Rayan Cherki to equalize in added time, leaving the overall tie in a delicate situation.
