Arrows Triumph Over SuperSport with Impressive Five-Goal Performance in Diski Challenge

Golden Arrows staged an incredible comeback, overcoming a two-goal deficit to triumph over SuperSport United 5-3 in a DStv Diski Challenge match at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Saturday.

Siviwe Magidigidi scored two first-half goals for SuperSport, establishing a strong lead. However, they struggled to defend it in the second half.

Kwanda Shezi ignited Arrows’ revival, cutting the deficit, and Sifundo Shezi quickly brought the score to 2-2 with an equalizer.

Sifundo Shezi then scored with a header, putting Arrows ahead 3-2 and completing their remarkable comeback, with all goals coming in the second half.

SuperSport appeared shocked and found it challenging to regain their composure.

Shezi secured his hat-trick in the 84th minute, finishing a swift counter-attack.

He followed up with his fourth goal in the 89th minute, exploiting SuperSport’s high defensive line to clinch a remarkable victory for Arrows.

This defeat effectively eliminates SuperSport, the 2022/23 champions, from contention for this season’s DStv Diski Challenge title.

Earlier that day, at the same venue, Stellenbosch rallied to beat Richards Bay 3-2, briefly taking the top spot in the standings.

However, their lead may be short-lived, as Kaizer Chiefs, the previous leaders, have the opportunity to reclaim first place with a victory over TS Galaxy on Sunday.

Ntlomelo Bomelo netted twice in the first half for Richards Bay, first with a close-range volley after a defensive blunder by Stellenbosch, and then capitalizing on a misplayed pass from the Stellenbosch defense.

This unexpected turn of events left Stellenbosch trailing, just one point behind league leaders Kaizer Chiefs, who have enjoyed a strong season, losing only two matches. They are regarded as favorites to secure their first DStv Diski Challenge title in ten years.

As the second half commenced, Stellenbosch, the reigning champions, struck back with a goal from Keanan Johannesen. At the hour mark, Tylon Smith leveled the match with a header from a corner kick.

Stellenbosch pressed hard late in the game, and an own goal from Sbangani Zulu sealed a 3-2 victory for the Cape Winelands side, momentarily placing them at the top of the table.
