Paul Scholes Reveals Ruben Amorim’s Genuine Thoughts on Man Utd: ‘He Doesn’t Back This Team’

PAUL SCHOLES has claimed that Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim “is not keen on” his squad.

The former Red Devils star, aged 50, was frank in his assessment of both Amorim and the players following United’s 2-2 stalemate with Lyon in the Europa League quarter-finals on Thursday evening.

Manchester United failed to gain an advantage heading into the return leg at Old Trafford as two errors by Andre Onana allowed Lyon to draw level for next week’s match.

Nevertheless, Amorim stated he was pleased with the performance of his players, asserting that his team “performed well” and are “improving with every game.”

Conversely, Scholes, a holder of 11 Premier League titles and two Champions League trophies with Man Utd, expressed doubts regarding that perspective, suggesting that Amorim himself may not fully endorse that view.

While speaking on TNT Sports, the 66-time England international commented: “I don’t think he genuinely believes that, if I’m honest.”

“I suspect he has no admiration for this team. I think he recognizes that he lacks a top-class squad and desires improvement – he needs enhancement.”

“His demeanor on the sidelines clearly reflects that disappointment.”

“His comments suggest he is not satisfied with his resources.

“It’s evident to everyone that to compete at the level Manchester United aims for, he needs to strengthen his squad overall.”

He remarked: “I feel they lack midfield control. The quality of the forwards does not meet the standard.

“Look, he understands this. He’s not naive; he may not admit it, but he doesn’t value this football team.”

Why Ruben Amorim’s Man United system is flawed

Scholes further stated that it could take “two or three years” for United to solve their issues and elevate their standing.

Since Amorim’s appointment at the Theatre of Dreams in November, he has made just one signing, bringing in full-back Patrick Dorgu for £25 million.

Manchester United will enjoy home advantage in the second leg against Lyon next Thursday.

Man Utd ratings vs Lyon as two Onana mistakes earn under-fire keeper a ONE out of 10

MANCHESTER UNITED lamented the blunders of goalkeeper Andre Onana as two significant errors led them to a 2-2 draw against Lyon in the Europa League quarter-final first leg.

This crucial clash for both teams escalated following a verbal exchange between Onana and former United player Nemanja Matic, who described the goalkeeper as “one of the worst in United history.”

The remarks fueled the home crowd’s displeasure when Ruben Amorim opted to maintain an unchanged lineup from the Manchester derby for the first time since assuming his role.

However, Onana faltered by failing to stop Thiago Almada’s inswinging free-kick, granting the hosts an early lead.

Leny Yoro would soon equalize just before halftime, heading the ball home after Manuel Ugarte’s volley.

Joshua Zirkzee looked to have secured victory for the visitors with a late header from a Fernandes cross.

Regrettably for United, their joy was fleeting as Onana deflected a shot straight to Rayan Cherki, who scored in injury time, leaving the tie delicately poised.

With escalating pressure on the players ahead of a crucial matchup, the Europa League is United’s final opportunity this season.

Having already been eliminated from both domestic cups and currently sitting in 13th place in the Premier League with only 10 wins from 31 league matches, their next match is a visit to Eddie Howe’s Newcastle on Sunday, followed by a return to focus on the Europa League second leg.
