No physical injuries resulted from the car accident, but it raised serious concerns about her well-being for both her and the F1 champion.
Since then, Helen has exhibited changes in behavior and challenges in communication.
Currently, she is unable to walk.
Most recently, she did not recognize Jackie.
Sir Jackie discussed these experiences during a BBC interview.
He recounted, “Just the other day, it was time for dinner, and as I was sitting nearby, she asked, ‘Where’s Jackie?’
“That was the first time it happened, just a few weeks ago.
“A dreadful feeling washed over me.”
Stewart characterized Helen’s state as being in “a new world” as her dementia advances.
He further explained, “I realize that when she lashes out, whether at me or the nurses caring for her, it’s not intentional.”

“At times, she can unexpectedly lash out, using unfamiliar language, which takes me by surprise. I gently remind her, ‘darling, please don’t say that.’
She typically responds with confusion and may admonish me for speaking that way. This often occurs in the evenings.”
Stewart has modified their home in Switzerland to be accommodating for Helen, ensuring it is free of stairs and hazards.
He has also brought on nurses and specialized neurosurgeons to assist with her care.
In response to his wife’s diagnosis, Sir Jackie launched Race Against Dementia, a charity aimed at accelerating research focused on finding a cure for dementia.
