Alexander-Arnold has been with Liverpool since 2006, making his way up through the youth system.

If he does not renegotiate a new deal, he could leave without a transfer fee this summer.

At 26 years of age, he has yet to disclose his intentions about leaving his childhood club for a fresh challenge.

Nevertheless, this has not dissuaded Madrid from pursuing the England international for an unexpected move in January.

According to the Daily Mail, Real’s approach for Alexander-Arnold was termed a “club-to-club inquiry rather than a formal bid.”

Liverpool quickly rebuffed the offer, indicating their “desire” to keep Trent.

Real Madrid’s manager Carlo Ancelotti is keen to acquire a new right-back to bolster his injury-affected squad.

With Dani Carvajal likely sidelined for the remainder of the season, the reigning La Liga champions find themselves just one point behind archrivals Atletico at the top of the table.

In recent years, Madrid has actively pursued free transfers, providing appealing contracts to attract players to the Bernabeu.

David Alaba, Antonio Rudiger  and most recently Kylian Mbappe are all examples of this strategy.

This week, Spanish media reported that Real is optimistic about Alexander-Arnold making a switch at the end of the season.

Hoping to secure a deal in January due to injury concerns, they understand that they may have to wait until summer for a potential transfer.

Since his debut nearly a decade ago, Alexander-Arnold has appeared in 332 matches for Liverpool.

He has secured the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, two League Cups, and a Club World Cup during his tenure at the club.

Liverpool, currently leading the Premier League title race, faces the looming possibility of losing Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk to free transfers this summer.

Both players have contracts that expire in May and have yet to agree on new terms.
