Football fans jokingly remarked that Gary Neville seemed to be “held hostage” owing to his unusual background at Old Trafford.
The Manchester United legend, 49, attended his former club’s ground on Monday evening to watch Ruben Amorim‘s team face off against Newcastle.
Prior to the Premier League clash, Neville participated in Sky Sports‘ Monday Night Football show, where host Dave Jones and Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher posed a variety of questions to him.
However, viewers were confused by Neville’s backdrop, which featured a bland white wall.
One fan humorously noted: “It looks like Neville is making a hostage statement while citing the kidnappers’ demands against that stark wall 😭.”
Another chimed in: “Gary Neville seems to be reporting like he’s been taken hostage.”
A third fan added: “Sky – Gary Neville joining via Zoom for Manchester United Vs Newcastle.”
On a different note, Neville criticized Manchester United’s recent signings including Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Manuel Ugarte, and Joshua Zirkzee ahead of the match against Newcastle.
He remarked: “I’m surprised that when Manchester United made those three or four signings this summer, I didn’t hear anyone say that ‘Manchester United have had a disastrous transfer market.’
“I am shocked at how underwhelming these players have been in their early months.”
