Newbury Placepot Insights – Saturday, December 28

LEG 1: Break My Soul, Panic Attack

BREAK MY SOUL has shown some signs of rust in both outings this season, but boasts strong form from last year and can deliver for Nicky Henderson.

PANIC ATTACK triumphed in this race back in 2020 and secured a commendable third on his return to hurdles at Ludlow last time.

LEG 2: La Marquise

LA MARQUISE showcased her talent when winning on her hurdles debut at Ludlow, building on her impressive bumper form, and there is undoubtedly more to come.

LEG 3: The Famous Five, Skycutter

THE FAMOUS FIVE adjusted well to chasing with a third-place finish at Windsor 13 days ago. Venetia Williams and Charlie Deutsch have an exceptional success rate over fences and can secure another victory.

SKYCUTTER performed well at Warwick last time and has the potential for further improvement.

LEG 4: Mr Hope Street, Rightsotom

MR HOPE STREET was outstanding at Warwick, achieving four wins in his last five runs. He was moving easily and had plenty left in reserve upon crossing the line. Though raised by 8lb, he should be able to handle that.

RIGHTSOTOM placed sixth in the 2023 Triumph Hurdle and demonstrated dominance with a seven-length victory at Doncaster last month. His jumping was excellent, and he too could excel despite the weight increase.

LEG 5: Henry’s Friend, Hoe Joly Smoke

HENRY’S FRIEND delivered a strong showing by finishing fifth in the Coral Hennessy last time out, having previously secured a Grade 2 win as a novice. He possesses substantial stamina and appears well-weighted for this race. There’s still more to reveal from Ben Pauling’s seven-year-old.

HOE JOLY SMOKE impressed at Sandown earlier this month and should handle the slightly extended distance with ease. He is still in the early stages of his fencing career.

LEG 6: Regent’s Stroll, The New Lion

Paul Nicholls has claimed victory in the last four iterations of this Grade 1 race and aims for a fifth with REGENT’S STROLL. After winning a competitive bumper here in March, he initiated his hurdling career with a classy nine-length win over two miles at this course. He made just one small mistake and appears ready for significant improvement with added distance.

THE NEW LION presents the main challenge after his success over this course and distance last month. Harry Skelton needed only a light nudge, suggesting there’s still plenty of energy left.
