Msimango: Chiefs’ Trophy Drought is “Devastating”

Given Msimango, a defender for Kaizer Chiefs, expresses his frustration over the club’s recent performance, particularly in relation to rivals Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.

During a team activation event in Durban on Saturday, Msimango shared his hopes when he joined Chiefs, highlighting his goal to win trophies while acknowledging the difficulties of witnessing the team’s recent struggles.

Currently sitting outside the top eight due to a series of disappointing results, Chiefs are getting ready to face Chippa United at Moses Mabhida Stadium this Sunday.

In comparison, Sundowns and Pirates are thriving, both battling for the league title and achieving significant milestones. Notably, Pirates have captured the MTN8 trophy for an unprecedented third consecutive year.

“It truly pains us as players to witness the club not meeting performance expectations,” Msimango remarked.

“Ultimately, it boils down to professionalism as a player. We can’t let emotions interfere with discussions about football; it’s grounded in reality, and the reality is we’re not at our best presently—something we’re diligently striving to improve.
“Regarding the success of other teams, I applaud them—especially Sundowns, who have been consistently outstanding over the years.

“Right now, Pirates are flourishing, demonstrating the importance of committing to the process and backing effective leadership, which has resulted in their trophy success.
“Congratulations to Pirates, and for us, our priority remains focused on the Kaizer Chiefs brand and pinpointing our areas for growth. With God’s grace, we can alter our fortunes.”

Having moved to Chiefs from TS Galaxy at the start of the season, Msimango underscored his dedication to achieving success at the club.

“My ambition has always been to find success with Kaizer Chiefs,” Msimango mentioned, having played in just four league matches this season.

“Success means winning trophies, and I feel I’ve let both the team and myself down.

“However, the journey is ongoing; I remain under contract with the club and still have the opportunity to represent the team.

“Thus, my ambitions won’t diminish due to a couple of setbacks.

“I will continue to work hard to turn things around for both myself and the club.”
