REAL MADRID has quietly opted to change the name of their iconic Santiago Bernabeu stadium without notifying the supporters.
Los Blancos have been enjoying this beautiful venue located in the heart of the Spanish capital since 1947.
With a capacity of 78,297, the Santiago Bernabeu has been the stage for remarkable moments in football history.
It was the inaugural stadium in Europe to host both a Euros and a World Cup final.
In 2019, the Santiago Bernabeu underwent extensive renovations costing £1 billion.
New features included an impressive retractable roof, as well as a hotel and shopping complex outside.
Now, however, Real Madrid’s stadium is being known by a newly adopted name.
This shift has been so understated that even the fans have remained unaware.
According to Spanish news outlet Marca, the Santiago Bernabeu is now officially referred to simply as the Bernabeu.
Management has reportedly dropped the first part of its full name for reasons relating to branding.

Originally named to honor former player and president Santiago Bernabeu, the stadium has been a site for fans to celebrate the club’s rich legacy.
However, those in charge are now said to prefer a more streamlined identity.

It’s believed that removing ‘Santiago’ to simply say ‘Bernabeu’ aligns with Real’s modern aspirations going forward.
This rebranding also opens up opportunities for potential sponsorship in the future.
Currently, there are no intentions to follow in the footsteps of rivals Barcelona, who now play at the Spotify Camp Nou.
However, should Real find a need for supplementary income later on, a vote on potential naming rights might be brought before shareholders.
