Mabasa Draws Inspiration from Manchester City and Bayern Munich Stars

Orlando Pirates striker Tshegofatso Mabasa has revealed the influences that drive his motivation during the season, stating that he draws inspiration from top European strikers.

The Bucs forward scored a hat-trick as Jose Riveiro’s team showcased their dominance, putting eight goals past Marumo Gallants’ Washington Arubi during their final home match of the year at Orlando Stadium on Tuesday.

Mabasa, who has faced challenges in his role after winning the Golden Boot with 16 goals last season, expressed relief at finally ending his goal drought in the Betway Premiership after a prolonged period without a goal.

“It’s such a relief. The last time I found the net in the league was in the opening match of the season against Chippa United. Scoring three goals today highlights the tremendous support I’ve had from the team,” he remarked.

“They have been supportive throughout, and I’m thankful to them and the coaching staff for their steadfast belief in me. I’m just overjoyed to have made a contribution today.”

At 28 years old, Mabasa noted that he looks up to the likes of Erling Haaland from Manchester City and Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane, both celebrated for their exceptional finishing and scoring ability.

“Every striker dreams of scoring goals, and hitting three is a remarkable achievement for me. I am grateful to the coaching staff, my coach, and my teammates for their unwavering support; it’s been phenomenal,” Mabasa stated.

“As I mentioned earlier, motivation comes from the desire to score, and that’s what pushes me forward. I’m constantly watching football to improve my game, learning from strikers like Erling Haaland and Harry Kane. Their performance at the highest level inspires me to aim even higher.”

Despite his impressive scoring run for Pirates, Mabasa has not yet received a call-up from Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos for the national squad.

Pirates are gearing up to face Carling Knockout Cup surprise winners and champions Magesi FC in their penultimate league match of 2024 at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday, trailing Mamelodi Sundowns by three points with one game in hand.

A win in this match could see them reclaim the top position in the Betway Premiership standings.
