Tottenham’s Coach Postecoglou Refuses to Comment After Heavy Loss to Liverpool

ANGE POSTECOGLOU addressed the latest criticism of his offensive approach following Tottenham’s 6-3 loss to Premier League leaders Liverpool.

The visibly annoyed Spurs manager had a tense interaction with a TV reporter, almost losing his cool over repeated questions about his tactics.

Determined Postecoglou, whose struggling defense has conceded 13 goals over their last three home games, remarked: “I’m just going to stop answering these questions.”

He pointed to injuries affecting goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and center-backs Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.

Tottenham’s starting left-back Destiny Udogie also had to come off the bench as Arne Slot’s quick side overpowered North London.

The Australian stated: “If people can’t see the obvious, I’m not going to highlight it. Interpret it as you wish; yes, we’re conceding goals.

“If you want to overlook the fact that we’re missing a goalkeeper, two center backs, and a left-back . . .

“I don’t know what else to say.”

Postecoglou faced questions about whether Spurs will benefit from his commitment to an attacking style in the long run.

He responded: “I have been incredibly patient for the past 18 months sitting here addressing the same inquiries repeatedly.

“If people want me to change my approach, it’s not going to happen.

“We’re doing this for a reason, and we believe it will lead to success.”

Tottenham fans protested ‘Levy out’ with black balloons while Spurs chairman watched on awkwardly during the loss to Liverpool.

Postecoglou described the painful defeat as “difficult,” which places Spurs at 11th, eight points adrift of the top four.

In spite of this, they remain the league leaders in scoring, with 39 goals, and have reached the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

Supporters were heard chanting Postecoglou’s name even when the score stood at 5-2.

On the fans’ reaction, the Tottenham manager shared: “I thought the fans were outstanding today, particularly given the situation.

“Perhaps some of them recognize what we’re currently facing. However, it seems many do not.

“I hope they see the vision we have, as I genuinely believe it will fulfill the desires of the club and its supporters.”

Last month, Postecoglou mentioned that if his squad stayed in tenth place by Christmas, he’d anticipate some discontent.

This was prior to the injury crisis, but the latest defeat has left his team in the lower half of the table.

He concluded: “All I can do is navigate us through this tough period.

“If being in tenth indicates I’m underperforming and that I should be concerned about it, that’s something for others to evaluate.”
