ENGLAND is facing a major blow as Ben Stokes is set to undergo surgery, resulting in a prolonged absence from the game.
The Test captain will miss at least THREE months due to a torn left hamstring.
Stokes suffered the injury during England’s 2-1 Test series victory over New Zealand.
The incident took place while he was bowling on Day Three of the Third Test.
This marks another instance of Stokes dealing with this specific injury.
He had previously torn his left hamstring in August during his time with The Hundred.
There is hope that the surgery will mitigate the chances of a similar injury happening again.
Moreover, England’s head coach, Brendan McCullum, did not select Stokes for the upcoming fixtures against India.
He will also miss out on playing for the South African team MI Cape Town in next month’s SA20.
Nevertheless, Stokes is aiming for a return in time for England’s Test match against Zimbabwe in May.
