Marumo Gallants, a team in the Betway Premiership, has bolstered their coaching team ahead of their upcoming clash with Orlando Pirates at Orlando Stadium on Tuesday.
The latest addition is Willy Moloto, the former assistant coach of the DStv Diski Challenge, who will work alongside Sundra Govinder and Duncan Lechesa.
Govinder, who was recently dismissed by Casric Stars, has been appointed as the second assistant coach for Gallants due to head coach Dan Malesela’s temporary absence.
This change raises questions about the future of Stan Nkoane, the club’s current coach for the Diski Challenge.
Sources from Sportswire have revealed that Nkoane, who made a mark in the Nedbank Cup during the 2019/20 season, is being approached by three clubs from the Motsepe Foundation Championship, each presenting him with enticing offers.
Govinder’s appointment as assistant coach surprised many within the football community, and it was officially confirmed last week alongside Malesela’s leave of absence.
Prior to this news, there had been reports of internal strife within Gallants and speculation regarding Malesela’s potential dismissal following their defeat to Polokwane City last weekend.
Malesela, who is currently in his third term with the club, was recruited at the last moment during the offseason.
This decision came after Dylan Kerr resigned, citing unwillingness to collaborate with co-coaches under the current setup.
Gallants secured their position in the Betway Premiership by taking over from Moroka Swallows during the offseason, and club chairman Abram Sello is determined to ensure that his significant investment does not result in relegation.
As it stands, Gallants are positioned 12th in the Betway Premiership standings, having accumulated 10 points from nine matches.
