Percy Tau scored a goal and assisted another as Al Ahly secured a convincing 6-1 victory against CR Belouizdad during their CAF Champions League Group C match at Cairo International Stadium on Sunday.
Tau, who has faced some criticism for his recent performances with the Egyptian giants, unleashed a powerful shot from outside the box in the 87th minute. He capped off an outstanding display by setting up Emam Ashour for Al Ahly’s sixth goal during stoppage time.
While Tau made significant contributions, the highlight was Wessam Abou Ali, who achieved a hat-trick. Ali began his scoring just before halftime and added two more goals in the 51st and 84th minutes. Hussein El Shahat also added to the score with a goal in the 56th minute, ensuring a comfortable win for the record African champions.
Al Ahly’s commanding performance was particularly impressive considering they fell behind early, with Aymen Mahious surprisingly putting Belouizdad ahead in the 21st minute. South African forward Khanyisa Mayo, representing Belouizdad, was substituted in the 71st minute with the score at 3-1 in favor of Al Ahly.
This decisive triumph propels Al Ahly back to the top of Group C with seven points, leading Orlando Pirates by two points. The Pirates previously held the lead with five points after three matches, following a draw against Stade Abidjan last weekend.
The Champions League action will resume on January 3. The Pirates will host Stade Abidjan at home, while Al Ahly will travel to face Belouizdad.
