Hlongwane Honors His Father’s Memory Through Man of the Match Prize Winnings

Kaizer Chiefs winger Naledi Hlongwane, honored as Man of the Match in the All-Stars’ impressive 3-0 victory over Magesi FC, revealed that part of his R100,000 prize money will be allocated for a tombstone for his late father.

Hlongwane, who faced the loss of his father last year, netted two goals as the All-Stars showcased their strength with three rapid goals in the first half against Magesi.

“The prize money I received today, especially after my father’s passing last year, will be used to create a tombstone for him,” Hlongwane shared with reporters, earning applause from the audience. “What remains will be given to my mother, and the rest will go into my savings.”

Displaying exceptional talent, Hlongwane scored both goals with pinpoint accuracy. His first goal came from a fantastic left-footed shot, set up by teammate Samkelo Zwane, who also found the net with the second goal in the first half.

Hlongwane secured his second just before halftime, perfectly finishing after receiving an assist from Mbekezeli Mbokani.

“It was truly a remarkable experience playing with well-known players in the PSL, such as Thembinkosi Lorch,” Hlongwane reflected.

“I have trained with Mfundo Vilakazi; we went through the U-19 and DDC together before he was elevated to the first team.”

Having previously played with Orlando Pirates forward Relebohile Mofokeng during their junior careers, Hlongwane expressed his wish to follow in Mofokeng’s successful path. Mofokeng, a fan favorite at Pirates, was part of the winning All-Stars squad before he was substituted at halftime.

When asked about the possibility of joining the Kaizer Chiefs senior team, Hlongwane stated, “If I get a call-up and sign with the first team, I will seize that opportunity with open arms.”

However, during the press gathering, Hlongwane was taken by surprise when cramps affected him, momentarily halting his response and eliciting laughter from the media. “Yoh, eish,” he exclaimed before concluding his remarks.
