REGIS LE BRIS has recommended that Liverpool transfer target Trey Ogunsuyi stays with the promising youth team at Sunderland.
Arne Slot’s Premier League leaders have recently signed several exciting young talents, such as Trey Nyoni, Amara Nallo, and Rio Ngumoha.
At present, Championship promotion hopefuls Sunderland may struggle to keep hold of their gifted 17-year-old as Liverpool eyes a January transfer.
The Belgian youth international joined the Stadium of Light eight years ago and signed his first professional deal this past January.
Ogunsuyi appears set to follow the path of Chris Rigg, 17, and Tommy Watson, 18, becoming the latest academy graduate to break into the first team.
He has already been an unused substitute three times and scored 15 goals for Sunderland’s youth teams, catching the eye of Liverpool.
Currently, Ogunsuyi, who is expected to be under contract until 2026, has witnessed the success of his friend and fellow teenager Jobe Bellingham under Le Bris’s guidance.
The French coach believes that Wearside is the perfect setting for the forward, who has netted 15 goals in 17 games for the U21s and U18s, to develop his skills.
The Sunderland manager remarked: “Yes, I think so. He’s very young, and Riggy, Tommy, and Jobe are the prime examples to aspire to at our club.
“Moving to a club with a strong squad necessitates finding the right environment for personal growth.

“I’m not sure. Social media often magnifies narratives, but in the end, if we create the right environment and the player, with the support of his family and agents, makes wise choices, we can establish a fitting pathway for him.”
Le Bris acknowledged that seeking a new striker is “probably” his top priority when the transfer window reopens, yet he underscored that Ogunsuyi is on the brink of consistently being included in his squad.
Roy Keane made £800 off Sunderland players but lost the dressing room with a training ground trick that quickly backfired
When questioned about Ogunsuyi’s readiness for increased playing time, he said: “I can’t say for sure. It depends on the chances that come up.
“He’s participated in training sessions, so there’s familiarity on both sides.
“Sometimes patience is necessary; at other times, it may happen after only two or three games. He’s very close to the main squad.”
