The duo believe the media focus on Littler has been excessive.
Nevertheless, Paton responded, stating: “Yeah, I do (believe Humphries has received enough recognition). And I think he’ll concur. I can only speak for our Sky coverage.
“He’s been an incredible world champion, and if you ask around, it’s 50/50 on who their favorite (Luke) is for the World Championship.
“I don’t think there have been any doubts about his year. For long stretches, he (Humphries) has been the best on the planet.
“I’d say he’s been the most consistent and reliable. I think we discuss him at length.
“For some, the Littler story can become a bit tangled. We’re talking about an extraordinary sports saga.
“If we rewind 12 months, he was ranked 164th in the world and had barely played on significant TV stages. Then, at just 16, he reached the World Championship final.
“I know he didn’t win, but a year later he’s jumped to fourth in the world. I can’t find an equivalent in any other sport that compares to how remarkable this is.
“It’s incredibly hard to contextualize that achievement. It’s something you don’t encounter often, maybe ever. It’s the impact he’s had on the sport.
“He’s taken it to new heights. Interest from last year hasn’t waned at all. I believe what Anderson and Wade misunderstood is that we’re discussing this in the context of what it signifies in sports.”
