The manager Amorim conveyed that it would have been preferable if the player had consulted him first, remarking: “If it were me, I would likely have a conversation with the manager.”

Nonetheless, he noted that the dissatisfied England forward, 27, might discover the “new challenge” he seeks by remaining at Old Trafford.

Rashford made his startling announcement just 48 hours after he and Alejandro Garnacho were omitted from the lineup for the 2-1 triumph over City.

Amorim, 39, suggested that the pair could be reinstated for Thursday night’s Carabao Cup quarter-final against Spurs if they adjust their attitude.

While Garnacho, 20, was seen heading to London yesterday, Rashford was notably absent.

The Portuguese coach appears unhappy with the conduct of some players outside the pitch.

However, he clarified that his comments about their behavior were merely intended to highlight his attention to detail regarding the entire squad.

He mentioned: “I don’t pay attention to their outfits, I only see them in their uniforms.

“And I’m not aware of what they eat; I’m not tracking their plates, it was merely a way to illustrate my point.

“What I can manage is how I perceive things and how they integrate into the matches and the training.

Man Utd boss Rubin Amorim states he has no disciplinary issues with Rashford and Garnacho

“For Marcus and all players, my aim is to maintain the standards and determine if they can reach them — and then partake in matches.”

Rashford astonished fans at Old Trafford when he stated to Henry Winter: “I feel I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps. When I exit, it will be with ‘no hard feelings’.

“You won’t hear any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That’s just my nature.”

“If I know the situation is already challenging, I’m not going to make it worse.

“I’ve seen how other players have left in the past, and I don’t want to be that person.

“When I depart, I’ll make my own statement, and it will come from me.”

Midfielder Mason Mount, 25, is unavailable for Thursday’s match due to another injury sustained during the game against City.
