José Riveiro, head coach of Orlando Pirates, is set to lead the All-Star team as they face the defending Carling Knockout Cup champions this Saturday at 15:30 at Orlando Stadium, as confirmed by event organizers.
This will be Riveiro’s second year in charge, having cultivated a strong fanbase within South African club football since he joined the Soweto Giants in June 2022. The team selection was determined exclusively by fan votes.
Earlier this year, the All-Stars triumphed over Stellenbosch with a 2-1 victory at Peter Mokaba Stadium.
Fans, vital to this unique event, once again exercised their voting power to select five players from the DStv Diski Challenge across all 15 clubs.
Pirates hold the majority representation in the starting lineup with five players: Sipho Chaine, Mbekezi Mbokazi, Jabulani Mokone, Relebohile Mofokeng, and Monnapule Saleng.
Both Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs have each contributed three players to the squad. From Chiefs, the players are Aden McCarthy, Naledi Hlongwane, and Ashley Du Preez, while Sundowns’ representatives include Asekho Tiwani, Grant Kekana, and Bathusi Aubaas.
In a recent match, Magesi clinched the Carling Knockout trophy after defeating Sundowns 2-1 at Toyota Stadium last month.
