Under the leadership of Fadlu Davids, Simba SC has narrowed the gap to just two points behind the NBC Tanzanian Premier League frontrunners Azam FC after clinching a convincing 2-0 win over last-placed KenGold at KMC Complex Stadium on Wednesday.
Striker Ateba Mbida, who joined the team this off-season from USM Alger in Algeria, got the scoreboard rolling in the 35th minute and netted his second just 10 minutes later, sealing a comfortable victory that awarded the team full points.
This triumph enables Davids’ squad to continue their title pursuit, with six consecutive league wins following a tight 1-0 defeat to bitter rivals Young Africans in October.

Throughout this remarkable streak, Simba has netted 12 goals without allowing any in, further bolstering their championship aspirations. The last time the club lifted the Tanzanian title was in the 2020/21 season before losing their crown.
Since then, the 22-time Tanzanian league champions have watched as Yanga has reigned supreme, claiming four successive titles while Simba finished as runners-up for three consecutive years and placed third last season, which qualified them for the CAF Confederations Cup.
Following this recent victory, Davids’ team moves up to second in the league table, accumulating 31 points from 12 matches. Additionally, the Reds of Msimbazi have three games in hand over the current leaders due to their participation in continental competitions.
Next up for Simba is an away fixture against Kagera Sugar at Kaitaba Stadium on Saturday afternoon, where they aim to increase their season goal tally of 24 while preserving their impressive defensive record of just three goals allowed and 10 clean sheets.
