Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has once again voiced his exasperation over squandered opportunities following his team’s 1-1 draw against TS Galaxy at Mbombela Stadium on Monday, stressing the importance of enhancing their attacking efforts.
The encounter marked the seventh draw in nine clashes between the two sides in the Betway Premiership. Samukelo Kabini opened the scoring with a header in the 35th minute, only for Ranga Chivaviro to level the score in stoppage time, allowing Amakhosi to earn a point.
Nabi’s team has managed just one victory in their past five league outings and currently occupies ninth place in the league table, amassing 12 points from nine games. The Soweto giants have a goal difference of zero, with 13 goals scored and 13 conceded.
The Tunisian manager expressed his dissatisfaction with his team’s performance at the start of the match, recognizing that they were frequently on the defensive. He noted that conceding a goal from a set piece altered the game’s momentum.
“We felt we didn’t begin well; in the first 20 minutes, we lost possession frequently, made easy passes that went astray, and didn’t win any duels, which put us in a difficult position. We tried to adjust tactically around the 25th minute,” Nabi explained to SuperSport TV via a translator.
“We conceded a goal from a set piece just as we were starting to gain control and play better. In the second half, we pushed forward but once again failed to take advantage of scoring opportunities.
“In the end, we did everything we could to enhance our offensive threat, and while we’re pleased to have secured a point, we recognize that we are still quite distant from the level expected of a club like Kaizer Chiefs, and we need to work hard to improve and bolster our squad,” he added.
Nabi emphasized that the goal-scoring difficulties faced by Chiefs arise from a shortage of players capable of converting chances, underlining the necessity for a striker eager to score.
“We have players who are skilled in dribbling and short-passing, but we are lacking some strength; we do not have enough decision-makers who can shoot effectively. We need to look for those types of players in the future,” he mentioned.
“An ideal Christmas gift would be to bring in new players who can strengthen the team, and we will do everything we can with our current squad to achieve better results.”
The Glamour Boys are set to face Chippa United at Moses Mabhida Stadium in their next league match on 29 December, aiming to wrap up the year positively and secure their fourth win of the 2024/25 season.
