Good evening and welcome to SunSport’s live coverage of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year!
This prestigious event is taking place at the BBC Sport headquarters located in MediaCity, Salford.
Keely Hodgkinson stands out as the top contender for this honorable award, following her extraordinary accomplishments in the 800m.
The Team GB star secured gold in the 800m at the Paris Olympics earlier this year.
Hailing from Atherton, she also claimed the European title in Rome, just two months before her event in France.
Hodgkinson broke the British national record, positioning her as the sixth fastest woman of all time.
Another strong candidate for Sports Personality of the Year is teenage darts sensation Luke Littler, who emerged as the runner-up at the World Darts Championship in January, propelling him into the limelight as one of the sport’s elite players.
Since his remarkable debut at Alexandra Palace, Littler has amassed ten PDC titles in his inaugural year on the professional circuit.
At just 17 years old, he strives to become the youngest recipient of this prestigious award in over six decades. Additionally, England and Real Madrid footballer Jude Bellingham is among the renowned figures competing for the title of BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
