AmaZulu Finalize Signings of Bongani Zungu and Mthethwa

AmaZulu Football Club has officially signed versatile defender Sandile Mthethwa and experienced central midfielder Bongani Zungu as they prepare for the upcoming phase of the Betway Premiership season.

Both players have secured permanent contracts as free agents after successfully passing their medical assessments. They were warmly welcomed by club President Sandile Zungu during the AmaZulu Fan Experience event on Tuesday afternoon. Mthethwa, who is originally from Empangeni in northern KwaZulu-Natal, joins AmaZulu after a recent stint with Orlando Pirates.

The defender conveyed his pride and determination to establish a lasting legacy at Usuthu. “I will give my utmost effort to make a notable contribution to the history of AmaZulu, elevate my family name, and aid the club in reclaiming a top-four position,” Mthethwa remarked.

He also expressed his gratitude to the club for their persistent interest in bringing him on board. “I’m thankful to AmaZulu for having faith in me. I understand there were previous efforts to sign me, and now that I’m finally here, I want to repay that belief with hard work on the field,” he shared.

“This club means a lot to me—it’s just a two-hour drive from my hometown, Empangeni—so I already feel a sense of belonging. I realize the journey ahead will be demanding, but I promise to dedicate myself entirely for this badge.”

Seasoned midfielder Zungu, who previously played for Mamelodi Sundowns and has an extensive career, brings invaluable experience to AmaZulu. He is keen to make a difference under the tutelage of co-coaches Arthur Zwane and Vusumuzi Vilakazi.

“My personal goal is to help the team achieve the highest possible spot in the league standings, support younger players, and share my knowledge with the team,” Zungu mentioned.

The midfielder, born in Duduza (east of Johannesburg), emphasized his aspiration to add trophies to AmaZulu’s cabinet.

“I have enjoyed trophy success throughout my career, and I hope to bring that winning mentality here. I understand the demands of winning, and that’s my aim,” he emphasized.

“I’m also looking forward to being coached by Arthur Zwane and Vusi Vilakazi. I’ve been following AmaZulu’s matches, and the team plays modern football. My understanding of the game will add value to the team, but I know I need to work hard to secure my spot.”
