Emma Paton, the presenter of SKY SPORTS darts, appeared visibly emotional as she shared the devastating news of Wayne Mardle’s wife’s death.
During a live broadcast this evening, Paton, who is 30 years old, announced the passing of Donna Mardle, who lived in Essex. She died at the age of 52 after a short illness, just before the start of the 2025 PDC World Darts Championship at Alexandra Palace.
The presenter became increasingly emotional as she reached out to darts legend Wayne, conveying that he is in the team’s thoughts and hearts.
Paton said: “If you are accustomed to watching Sky Sports Darts, you will notice that Wayne is not with us tonight.
“Wayne embodies everything we represent at Sky Sports Darts.
“Sadly, the heart of his world, his remarkable wife Donna, passed away earlier this week after a brief illness.
“We will remember Donna throughout this tournament. Wayne, you are in our thoughts and forever in our hearts. We cherish you, and look forward to seeing you soon.”
Wayne — who reached five semi-finals at both the BDO and PDC world levels — was expected to appear at Ally Pally this Christmas and has been a constant presence on Sky TV’s coverage.
It is understood that the 51-year-old will be absent from the commentary team — where he has played a crucial role — for the foreseeable future.
Sky Sports released a statement saying: “Sky Sports extends its thoughts, prayers, and heartfelt condolences to our commentator Wayne Mardle after the passing of his wife Donna earlier this week.”
Almost seven years ago, Wayne shared on social media that Donna had triumphed over cancer.
The PDC also offered a heartfelt message to the darts legend just before the start of the tournament.
