MANCHESTER CITY is said to be considering an unexpected bid to sign Paul Pogba right before the Manchester derby.
The faltering champions have reportedly “inquired” about a possible transfer for the former Man Utd midfielder as he readies for his comeback from a doping suspension in March.
Pep Guardiola is keen on adding more midfield options, especially after Rodri’s ACL injury has hindered City’s Premier League campaign.
Earlier this week, SunSport reported that Guardiola may invest in the January transfer window for the first time in seven years.
He is targeting both Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes and Liverpool prospect Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad.
However, The Independent indicates that he might pursue a much more contentious move for the controversial ex-Man Utd star Pogba.
Despite this, the report mentions that Pogba is apprehensive about joining City due to his connections with their bitter rivals.
In fact, the 31-year-old Frenchman reportedly has concerns about returning to England entirely.
Pogba still hopes to compete at the top level in football, with LaLiga, Serie A, and the Bundesliga at the top of his preferences.
He is currently serving an 18-month ban for testing positive for the substance DHEA in August 2023.

Pogba initially received a four-year ban, but this was reduced following an appeal.
This suspension led to the termination of his contract with Juventus.

Starting in January, the 2018 World Cup champion will be allowed to train with a club again.
Pogba stated back in October: “I am not a cheater, I love my sport.
“I value the game and would never resort to unfair practices. People are aware of this about me.
“Those who know me realize that I’m a poor loser, but I am certainly not a cheater.
“I just want to be [back] on the field, any field.
“It’s tough to train alone, passing against the wall.
“Right now, my focus is on returning to training, getting fit, and playing the game I cherish.”
Pogba has made 233 appearances for Man Utd over two spells at the club.
He left on a free transfer in the summer of 2022.
