Leeds previously made a summer offer for the 19-year-old and are now aiming to finalize a loan-to-buy arrangement.

Essugo recorded 25 appearances for Sporting during his youth career.

Earlier this summer, ex-manager Ruben Amorim opted to send him out on loan.

Presently, he is competing in LaLiga with Las Palmas.

Throughout the season, Essugo has participated in 10 matches for his loan club.

He scored his maiden goal last month in a match against Mallorca.

In other developments, Leeds are on the verge of signing Australian goalkeeper Robbie Cook after a successful trial.

Cook, 17, has drawn interest from Manchester United and Sunderland.
